Students receive hands-on history lesson

Fourth graders from Valley View and Black Rock left their classrooms for an up-close and personal history lesson.

On Monday, May 20, the students attended the 4th Annual Arkansas Territorial Days at Davidsonville Historic State Park near Pocahontas.

During the two-day event the students learned about early games, dancing, chores, slavery, spinning and weaving, early transportation and more.

Usually as many as 600 students attend the annual event.  However, due to Tuesday’s weather, not all schools were able to attend.

Body of 14-year-old Sidney Randall found; cause of death still under investigation

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – The body of missing 14-year-old Sidney Randall has been found and identified by the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

The Walnut Ridge Police Department held a press conference Monday afternoon confirming that it was Randall's body that was found Saturday.

The cause of death is still being investigated.

Fisherman who found body in Black River tells story

LAWRENCE/RANDOLPH COUNTY LINE, AR (KAIT) - It started off as a normal Saturday afternoon for Herschel Meeks and his family as they spent the day on Black River.

"We took the family and went to the river found a beach, most of them covered up so we found one beach that had a little bit of sand on it and we had a little bit of fun," said Meeks.

As the weather forced them to call it a day, Meeks caught a glimpse of something that looked out of the ordinary on their ride back to shore.

Power restored to more than 4,000 Entergy AR customers

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - Entergy Arkansas is reporting power to more than 4,000 customers has been restored after a significant power outage in Northeast Arkansas.

The outage was due to a transmission line fault, according to Entergy Customer Service Manager David Burnette. 

Transmission lines are the cross country lines originating from generating stations that deliver power at high voltages to area substations that feed towns.
