AR panel accepting comments on voter ID rules

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - An Arkansas panel is moving toward adopting rules to enforce a new state law that will require voters to show photo identification at the polls before they can cast a ballot.

The state Board of Election Commissioners on Wednesday voted to begin accepting public comment for the rules.

The panel plans to give final approval to the rules in August.

Poll workers are currently required to ask for identification, but voters can cast a ballot if they don't show ID.

Road safety a topic of concern after recent deadly crashes

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The roads have been a deadly place for the past few days here in Region 8. In just three days eight people have died from accidents. The cause of those accidents can be a number of things.

"Distractions can involve a phone or a child," said Paragould Police Officer Brad Snyder. "Anything can come into play operating a motor vehicle and people need to realize that those vehicles are four thousand pound bullets basically."

With more people out on the road this time of year, many drivers try to avoid the times where traffic is heaviest.

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe doesn't have any immediate plans to schedule executions for seven death row inmates even though the attorney general had asked him to set dates.

Beebe spokesman Matt DeCample told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the governor's decision to hold off on setting execution dates comes as the Department of Correction plans to rewrite its lethal injection protocol and as nine death row inmates challenge the state's new execution law in court.

Be a hero, give blood

Be a hero, give blood

You don’t have to be a “Man of Steel” to save a life.  In fact, you don’t even have to be a man.

All it takes to be a real hero is an hour of your time.

According to the American Red Cross, blood donations tend to decline during the summer, when many regular donors are on vacation and schools are out of session.

However, you can step up and help fill the need.

The following blood drives will be held this month in Randolph County:
