Duck hunt, banquet for Wounded Warriors
Duck hunt, banquet for Wounded Warriors

Every year millions of migratory birds, including ducks, flock to Randolph and Lawrence Counties.

This weekend 15 Purple Heart recipients will be there to greet them.

The Wounded Warrior Project’s Winter 2012 Duck Hunt will be held this Friday through Saturday, December 14-16.

Greenheads & Rednecks Hunting Lodge, located in Biggers, will provide lodging and guides for the hunters.

The weekend will begin Friday afternoon with a safety talk from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commissions local wardens.  The Five Rivers Trap Club volunteers will then host a skeet shoot at the lodge.

Special guest Hallie Horton, who is the reigning female champion of the World Championship Duck Calling Contest held in Stuttgart, will visit with the warriors and demonstrate her champion calls.  Horton is also a student at Williams Baptist College.

On Saturday morning the warriors will hit the blinds.  They and the guides will hunt ducks on public WMAs, as well private lands donated by landowners.

The day will wrap up with a banquet at the lodge, located in the recently renovated Biggers High School Auditorium/Banquet Hall.

The banquet is open to the public.  Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at local VFW offices, local hunting lodges and participating banks in Lawrence and Randolph Counties.

In addition to dinner, there will be live entertainment and a silent auction with proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The duck hunt is sponsored by American Legion Post #6 and the National Wounded Warrior Project, with local VFW service offices participating.
